Over the years, figures ranging from Jack Lemmon to Bing Crosby have guided viewers through a night recognizing the very best of cinema from the preceding year. But the show has been without a host for the last three Oscars ceremonies. Initially a consequence of the last-minute departure of scheduled host Kevin Hart in 2019, subsequent ceremonies have continued to march on without filling that once-important role.
