Biz Roundup: Texas Roadhouse opens to the public after hosting events to benefit community members – Salisbury Post

SALISBURY — After hosting several pre-opening events to benefit the local community, Texas Roadhouse opened to the public Tuesday at the Rowan Summit Shopping Center.

The location, which is just under 8,000 square feet and can seat about 300 guests, is the first Texas Roadhouse in Rowan County. The franchise was brought to Salisbury by Managing Partner David Simon. Texas Roadhouse joins Dick’s Sporting Goods, Hobby Lobby, Five Below, Kirkland’s and several other businesses that already inhabit Rowan Summit Shopping Center.

Burton Coliseum tax up for renewal – American Press

Calcasieu Parish officials are encouraging voters to renew the Burton Coliseum and Agricultural Services property tax on Saturday because it helps maintain several important and widely-used facilities.

The parishwide tax, if renewed, would remain at its existing rate of 1.5 mills and be in place for 10 years, starting Jan. 1, 2023. Voters initially approved the tax in 1993 and renewed it in 2003 and 2012. The 2012 renewal received a 68 percent approval.

The tax is expected to generate roughly $3.8 million annually, with $3.1 million dedicated to the parish-owned Burton Coliseum Complex. Around Town: ‘Fiesta Holiday’ to parade off the coast in south O.C.

Dana Point Harbor’s annual Boat Parade of Lights will set sail on Friday through Sunday with a “Fiesta Holiday” theme this year.

Boaters will decorate their boats for the chance to win up to $10,000 in cash prizes awarded for different categories, such as Best Use of Theme, People’s Choice and Mayor’s Cup.

The parade begins at 7:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and 6:30 p.m. on Sunday. The city of Dana Point’s Jolly Trolley will also run 5:30-11 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and 4-9 p.m. on Sunday.

Dana Point Harbor Partners are also lighting up the harbor with a holiday display made up of more than 700,000 LED lights.

Brewer bar hosting benefit night for veterans in need

BREWER, Maine (WABI) – An organization dedicated to helping local veterans is putting on a benefit night and concert Friday to keep those who served warm this winter.

Mad Kat and Company in Brewer is hosting a night of rock and roll to benefit the Garry Owen House.

There will be live entertainment, raffles, and door prizes.

The Garry Owen House in Montville provides a place to stay and other resources for veterans.

All proceeds from Friday night’s event go toward the veterans heating fund.

Members say you never know how many veterans may need assistance, and the community in Brewer is more than willing to contribute.

“Ten minutes ago, someone donated $1,000 to this event,” said Crow Fleming of Garry Owen MC. “It’s all about the vets, we love our vets.”
