Snowy Saturday Sessions hosted by Nebraska Game and Parks

NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (KNOP) – A division of Nebraska Game and Parks is dedicated to providing outdoor knowledge and tips to women by hosting weekly webinars. The “Becoming an Outdoors Women” (BOW) hosts their Snowy Saturday Sessions via Facebook covering a variety of topics.

On Jan. 30, they discussed tips for archers and bow maintenance. The goal is to ensure that an individual’s archery equipment is set up and working properly. BOW tries to make each topic timely to the season. For instance, checking one’s archery equipment before spring turkey season begins.

During February and March, some deer species will be shedding antlers. The next session will cover shed hunting. The organization will be covering rules and regulations for those planning to shed hunt. Their presentation…

Shenango River Named PA 2021 River of the Year in Public Voting

​Harrisburg, PA — Winding through Northwestern Pennsylvania, connecting Pymatuning and Shenango lakes with the Beaver River via 82 miles of scenic, peaceful river, the Shenango River has been voted the state’s 2021 River of the Year.

The public was invited to vote online, choosing from among five waterways nominated across the state. Results were announced jointly today by the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) and the Pennsylvania Organization for Waterways and Rivers (POWR).

Other waterways nominated were the Buffalo Creek, Lehigh River, Loyalhanna Creek and Tunkhannock Creek.

Upper Peninsula History To Be Preserved Digitally

The history of the Upper Peninsula is moving to a digital platform.

Upper Peninsula heritage groups have received a $100,000 dollar grant that will help create UPLINK–a digital network that will allow groups to preserve collections and offer public access to historical pieces such as manuscripts.

Marcus Robyns, an archivist at Northern Michigan University, says the Upper Peninsula has struggled to identify, collect and preserve its heritage.

He says most museums, archives and libraries are not well funded and are short staffed with primarily volunteers.

Robyns had reached out to about 20 heritage groups in the Upper Peninsula. He found that only the Delta County Historical Society of Escanaba provides online access to digital materials.
