The Illinois State University campus and Bloomington-Normal community came together May 1 to celebrate the opening of the new shared home of WGLT and The Vidette. WGLT staff provided tours of the new building at 500 W. Locust St. in Normal, including inside the five new studios. Executive Director R.C. McBride and ISU President Aondover Tarhule gave remarks before a ribbon-cutting with the McLean County Chamber of Commerce. The move caps a multiyear fundraising campaign to build new studios paired with generous support from ISU to update The Vidette building. Three divisions of competition hosted at Abbotsford Arts Center, winners move on internationally The eyes of the pageant world will be on Abbotsford this summer when the Mrs. Canada Inc. competition comes to the Fraser Valley from July 18 to 22. The event is affiliated with Mrs. World, Mrs. Universe, Mrs. Globe and Mrs. Earth and wins in Abbotsford can qualify contestants to advance to those larger stages. Social media giant TikTok has sued the U.S. government, alleging that recently signed legislation that could potentially ban the app violates the First Amendment rights of both the company and its users.  Last month, President Joe Biden signed a foreign aid package that included legislation requiring ByteDance — TikTok’s Chinese parent company — to sell the social media platform within 270 days or be banned from app stores and web-hosting services.
