HP closes Russian business, shutting website for good

HP has completely withdrawn from the Russian market in order to conform with sanctions mandated by the US in response to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. The company’s local website, which has served as a home for driver downloads and technical support in Russian, has now been directed to Kazakhstan. A former Soviet state, Russian is the country’s official language and one of its two most spoken languages. Despite the removal of online support, Russian shoppers can still access drivers for notebooks, HP printers, and other hardware on the redirected website. Huge backdoor discovered that could compromise SSH logins on Linux

On Friday March 29, Microsoft employee Andres Freund shared that he had found odd symptoms in the xz package on Debian installations. Freund noticed that ssh login was requiring a lot of CPU and decided to investigate leading to the discovery. The vulnerability has received the maximum security ratings with a CVS score of 10 and a Red Hat Product Security critical impact rating. Red Hat assigned the issue CVE-2024-3094 but based on the severity and a previous major bug being named Heartbleed, the community has cheekily named the vulnerability a more vulgar name and inverted the Heartbleed logo. Regional District of Nanaimo agrees to co-host 2025 AVICC conference

The Regional District of Nanaimo has agreed to co-host the Association of Vancouver Island and Coastal Communities annual general meeting and convention in 2025. After successfully co-hosting in the conference with the City of Nanaimo in 2023, the AVICC has requested the RDN and the City of Nanaimo stage the event next year in April and to continue hosting it every two years after 2025.
