Tears, applause, singing and dancing as Irish town celebrates Sinead O’Connor

There was a cauldron of emotions as complex as one of Sinead O’Connor’s albums in the Irish town she called home for 15 years when well wishers gathered to say a final farewell to the singer. The seaside town of Bray gave O’Connor a relatively quiet life for 15 years in an understated house on the main street overlooking the Irish Sea. The house, Montebello, has become a place of pilgrimage for O’Connor’s fans since news of her death last month, with crowds arriving daily to lay flowers and reflect on her life and music. Islamic community prayed for Sinead O’Connor at ‘moving and spiritual’ funeral

Sinead O’Connor had a “moving and private” funeral featuring Islamic prayers ahead of a funeral procession along a waterfront in Ireland. The Chief Imam at the Islamic Centre of Ireland, who delivered Sinead O’Connor’s funeral prayer, said O’Connor “never moved away from God” unlike others who have “difficulties and trials” in their lives. Hundreds of people have shared hoax appeals searching for a missing man with dementia named ‘George’ across the UK.  Full Fact has seen examples searching for ‘George Smith’ shared in Yeovil and Nailsea in Somerset, Long Eaton in Derbyshire and Inverclyde, Scotland. The same images and text have also been used in hoax posts claiming to search for ‘George Wayne’ in Winchester (Hampshire), High Wycombe (Buckinghamshire) and again in both Long Eaton and Inverclyde. WRITER, director and actor Mark P O’Connor has been honoured for his short film debut. He won the Best Narrative Short Award at the Red Cedar Film Festival in the United States. The Limerick city man was inspired by the people he has shared pints with over the years. His debut, Pints, was filmed in JJ Bowles and Souths public houses.
