The Illinois State University campus and Bloomington-Normal community came together May 1 to celebrate the opening of the new shared home of WGLT and The Vidette.

WGLT staff provided tours of the new building at 500 W. Locust St. in Normal, including inside the five new studios. Executive Director R.C. McBride and ISU President Aondover Tarhule gave remarks before a ribbon-cutting with the McLean County Chamber of Commerce.

The move caps a multiyear fundraising campaign to build new studios paired with generous support from ISU to update The Vidette building. The deeper partnership between WGLT and The Vidette is already paying dividends, including the launch this spring of the Democracy’s Future podcast tied to the election.

Abbotsford hosting Mrs. Canada Inc. beauty pageant event in July

Three divisions of competition hosted at Abbotsford Arts Center, winners move on internationally

The eyes of the pageant world will be on Abbotsford this summer when the Mrs. Canada Inc. competition comes to the Fraser Valley from July 18 to 22.

The event is affiliated with Mrs. World, Mrs. Universe, Mrs. Globe and Mrs. Earth and wins in Abbotsford can qualify contestants to advance to those larger stages.

Women will be vying in three different divisions – Mrs. (married), Miss (never married, younger than 26) and Ms. (divorced or separated, older than 26). The event occurs at the Abbotsford Arts Centre.

Mrs. Canada Inc. founder Annie Manjuran said that she acquired the company about three years ago and said she has big plans to expand the concept across the country.
