Canadian Taxpayers Federation is calling on B.C. to release its FIFA contract

A national government spending watchdog wants B.C. and the City of Vancouver to release the costs of hosting the 2026 FIFA Men’s World Cup, warning of an escalating price tag.

The Canadian Taxpayers Federation issued that call Thursday (March 14) after releasing the City of Toronto’s hosting contract with soccer’s world body. Toronto will host six games and Vancouver seven as two of 16 host cities spread across the United States, Mexico and Canada.

Christian group urges Labour to back calls for ‘nudification’ ban

A Labour think tank has backed calls for a ban on artificial intelligence (AI) tools that allow users to digitally undress women and children.

It came after a poll by the Christian social policy charity CARE found that almost eight in ten Brits are in favour of a ban.

The poll asked participants if: “Websites and apps that use AI to simulate sexually explicit content such as undressing women and children should be banned by the government.”

Seven in ten respondents strongly agreed (69 per cent) and one in ten (10 per cent) somewhat agreed. The number of respondents who strongly agreed rises to almost eight in ten (75 per cent), discounting those who preferred not to answer.

Greenville, Spartanburg influencers react to US efforts to ban TikTok.

On Wednesday, the House approved a bill where ByteDance would be forced to sell TikTok or face a practical U.S. ban from app stores and web-hosting services if it is signed into law, according to a story in USA Today.

The bill gained bipartisan support passing the House 352 to 65. The bill is now on its way to the Senate where its fate is uncertain, and on March 8, President Joe Biden said he would sign it should it make it to his desk.

If signed into law, the bill would prevent app stores like Apple and Google from distributing or updating TikTok and web hosting companies from distributing it, according to an article in USA Today.

Social media influencers Bailey Lavender of Greenville and Spartanburg’s Jorden Hall are worried about the possible TikTok ban.
