SD bridge near Huron to be dedicated in honor of U.S. Army First Lieutenant Thomas M. Martin

The South Dakota Department of Veterans Affairs will be hosting a State Bridge Dedication Ceremony today (Oct. 14, 2023) to honor U.S. Army First Lieutenant Thomas M. Martin, son of career military parents, SGM Ed Martin  (U.S. Army retired) and CW5 Candy Martin (U.S. Army retired). 

The ceremony will be held at 10:00 a.m. (CT) at the South Dakota Military Heritage Alliance in Sioux Falls (1600 W. Russell Street).

The James River Bridge on US HWY 14, near Huron, will be dedicated to 1LT Martin.

Martin, who was born in Huron, was assigned to 1^st Squadron, 40^th Calvary Regiment, 4^th Brigade Combat Team (Airborne). He died October 14, 2007, in Al Busayifi, Iraq, of wounds sustained when insurgents attacked his unit using small-arms fire during combat operations.
