Squarespace: The Apple iPhone of web hosting has its limitations

Seventeen-year-old New York-based hosting firm Squarespace has been dubbed by one Wall Street stock analyst “the iPhone of hosting.” 

That description is apt in more ways than one. 

Like the iPhone, there is a slick quality to many elements of Squarespace that is user friendly, especially to people with limited technical acumen, such as picking pleasing templates for blogging that provide an immediately attractive visual feel.

And similar to Apple products, the veneer of ease can produce a false sense of security. There are times when Squarespace won’t function the way you’d wish, and when it can cause frustration with functions that suddenly break, with little recourse except to be patient…

Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL), Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN) – Parler Back Online With SkySilk’s Web Hosting

  • Parler, popular with right-wing conservatives, relaunched its social media platform on Monday with assurances over “sustainable, independent technology,” CNBC reports.
  • Web infrastructure company SkySilk CEO confirmed that it is hosting Parler, NPR reports. The company had deployed a “privacy-preserving process” with AI and human moderators and a “trolling filter” to counter the alleged violent content. 
  • Parler appears to be using CloudRoute as its new host and substituted Amazon.com, Inc (NASDAQ: AMZN) with open-source software platform Ceph, as per CNBC.
  • Parler intends to usher its current users online in the first week and be accessible to the new users next week.

Parler removed from Google and Apple stores; Amazon no longer hosting

President Donald Trump has been kicked off of most mainstream social media platforms following his supporters’ siege on the U.S. Capitol. But it remains to be seen how fast or where — if anywhere — on the internet he will be able to reach his followers.

The far right-friendly Parler had been the leading candidate, at least until Google and Apple removed it from their app stores and Amazon booted it off its web hosting service just after midnight Pacific time early Monday.
