Argos is not selling laptops or vacuum cleaners for just £1

Posts on Facebook have claimed the retailer Argos is selling both Lenovo Ideapad 3 laptops or Dyson V15 Absolute vacuum cleaners for the discounted price of £1.

However, a spokesperson for Argos confirmed these are not genuine offers.

Posts offering fake deals are very common on Facebook. We have fact checked them many times before, with recent examples including supposed offers for other brands of laptop, air fryers, mattresses and PlayStations which, despite claims to the contrary, were nothing to do with Argos.

Hundreds of Facebook users share fake Argos giveaway

Several Facebook posts shared in local community groups are falsely promoting an Argos giveaway that is not real.

The posts, which have identical text, claim: “Argos is giving Gifts of smartphones, laptops other miscellaneous things at no charge mailed straight to your doorstep [sic]”. It says people can arrange the delivery by completing a “short 20 second form on the next page”.

A spokesperson for Argos confirmed to Full Fact that the offer is not genuine.

One post appearing in a community group for Liverpool has almost 300 shares, while another post in a group for Mayobridge in Northern Ireland has more than 220 shares. It also appears in groups for Knock Shrine in Ireland, Worthing and Lancing in West Sussex and Milton Keynes in Buckinghamshire, as well…

Argos is not selling Emma mattresses for £3

A post on Facebook claims that Argos has partnered with Emma mattresses to offer them to customers for £3 each.

The post says: “Argos is now partnering with Emma – to celebrate, we’re giving away the first batch of 500 mattresses in all sizes for the great price of £3”.

But an Argos spokesperson told Full Fact “This is not a genuine Argos offer.”

The image in the post is an edited version of a picture that appeared on Facebook in 2021, apparently taken in a Costco in the US. The label has been edited to make it look like an Emma mattress and the Argos price signs have been added.

The post tells users to click the “Apply Now” button to reserve their item while stocks last.

Following the link takes users to a website that has the Argos logo and looks…

Promotions on Facebook for £2 PlayStation consoles at Argos are fake

Posts on Facebook are claiming to be offering PlayStation 5 consoles for less than £2 from Argos. But the offers are not genuine.

One of the posts appears on a Facebook page with only three followers and claims the consoles were used in “demo presentations”. The other fake offer is posted by a page that has 27 followers and claims the consoles were formerly used at “trade shows”.

Both posts show photos of PlayStation 5 boxes in a store with an Argos sign advertising the consoles for £1.78.

A spokesperson for Argos told Full Fact that: “These are not genuine offers.

One of the posts says: “Click the button and visit our website to order”. But the link goes to a webpage that looks like Argos but doesn’t have the official Argos web address and…
