North St. Louis non-profit to hold back-to-school free book event

ST. LOUIS, Mo. (First Alert 4) – A non-profit organization serving north St. Louis is hosting a back-to-school event featuring a free book giveaway this Saturday.

Red Circle, which is dedicated to fighting for racial equity in north St. Louis, is hosting its fourth annual Back2School with Books on Saturday, Aug. 3 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The vent will be at the North County Community Nexus located at 9300 Lewis and Clark Blvd. in Ferguson, Mo.

Kids who attend the event will select a free book from EyeSeeMe African American Children’s Bookstore. The online bookstore specializes in promoting positive images and stories about African American culture and history.

Xclusive Barbershop hosting free back-to-school haircut event Aug. 4

School is almost about to start again in Greeley, and with that comes making sure your student looks great for the first day.

From clothes, supplies and haircuts, back-to-school shopping is expensive.

Xclusive Barbershop, 1819 9th St., Greeley, is helping out local pre-kindergarten to senior students with free premium haircuts 1-5 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 4.

The event is sponsored by Barbers Ark, co-founded by Greeley native, Tommy Frias. Barbers Ark offers “a variety of programs and services to support the needs of individuals through mentoring, resource finding, public engagement and grooming services.”

“We’re just trying to help out and be of service,” Frias said of the upcoming event.

Los Angeles Mission hosting virtual back-to-school supplies drive

LOS ANGELESA local nonprofit is hosting an online back-to-school drive for kids facing homelessness.

Los Angeles Mission, the nonprofit working to break the cycle of homelessness and poverty, shared a link for families looking to help the unhoused students ahead of the upcoming 2024-2025 school year.

Salvation Army hosting back-to-school shoe program

The sign-up for Odessa students is Tuesday, July 9 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Salvation Army Odessa location at 810 E. 11th St. in Odessa. This one is for ECISD students only.

The sign-up for Midland students is Thursday, July 11 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Salvation Army Midland location at 600 E. Wall St. in Midland. This one is for MISD students only.

If planning to sign up, bring the birth certificate for each child, a utility bill and a valid I.D. Store vouchers are limited and it’s first come, first serve.
