After years of being in the doghouse, Wall Street is finally buying what Gap (GPS) is selling. The company is the largest specialty retailer in the U.S., and has four main divisions: Old Navy, Banana Republic, Gap, and Athleta.

On May 31, the fashion retailer’s shares jumped more than 28% — the most since November 2023. This followed a blowout earnings report that showed a fashion overhaul by relatively new CEO Richard Dickson is working.

Dickson became known in the past few years as the main force behind the revitalization of the Barbie franchise for Mattel (MAT). Last August, he was brought on by Gap to turn its fortunes around.

Artisan Partners, an investment management company, released its “Artisan Mid Cap Fund” first quarter 2024 investor letter. A copy of the same can be downloaded here. In the first quarter, the fund’s Investor Class fund ARTMX returned 10.41%, Advisor Class fund APDMX posted a return of 10.40%, and Institutional Class fund APHMX returned 10.44%, compared to a 9.50% return for the Russell Midcap Growth Index. Balanced security selection across health care, industrials, consumer staples, consumer discretionary, and communication services led the portfolio to outperform the index in the quarter. Fat Joe is returning to his hosting duties for this year’s BET Hip-Hop Awards.

The “Lean Back” MC will come for his second year in a row as host of the star-studded night. Joe led last year’s ceremony and performed alongside Wu-Tang Clan, Remy Ma, and several others. His amazing skills obviously impressed BET enough to welcome the podcast host back.
