‘Jeopardy!’ Hit With Mayim Bialik Absence But Continues Production – Deadline

EXCLUSIVE: Jeopardy! has become one of the first game shows to be impacted by the writers strike.

Deadline understands that host Mayim Bialik decided against hosting the final week of filming for season 39, standing in solidarity with the striking writers.

However, we understand that production on the final run of episodes for the season is going ahead with Ken Jennings taking over hosting duties. The final episodes of the season will be filmed at the Sony Pictures lot in Culver City between Tuesday May 16 and Friday 19 May.

Jeopardy!, which is produced by Sony Pictures Television, is a WGA show and features contributions from WGA writers, but the questions were written in advance of a season and the strike.

“It is pretty cushy,” Ken agreed.

‘Jeopardy!’ Fans Lash Out After Mayim Bialik Resumes Hosting

A number of Jeopardy! fans have voiced their objection to Mayim Bialik resuming hosting duties, as Ken Jennings takes a break from the primetime show.

All-time Jeopardy! champ Jennings has hosted the syndicated quiz show since its 38th season, while Bialik has presented the tournaments. The pair have, on occasion, switched places on the main show and specials.

They were officially announced as the show’s permanent hosts before the start of the current season 39 last year, following the death of popular long-time presenter Alex Trebek in November 2020.

Jennings’ most recent block of pre-recorded shows came to an end in April, with Bialik stepping up to the lectern from this week onward. Jennings will be seen hosting the Jeopardy! Masters competition from May 8.

Ken Jennings Jokes About Mayim Bialik While Hosting ‘Jeopardy!’

Ken Jennings cracked a joke about Mayim Bialik during a recent episode of Jeopardy! as he settled back into his hosting role on the show.

All-time Jeopardy! champ Jennings returned to long-running syndicated quiz show on Friday, following the conclusion of the franchise’s High School Reunion Tournament, which was hosted by The Big Bang Theory star Bialik.

During Jennings’ time away from screens, a faction of fans complained on social media about his absence, while others were thrilled to see the return of Bialik, who presents the Jeopardy! spinoffs and tournaments.

However, it appears that TV personality Bialik hasn’t been far from the minds of the Jeopardy! production team since stepping away from the lectern.

From established hosts like Pat Sajak on “Wheel of Fortune” to newcomers like Mayim Bialik on “Jeopardy!” or Katy Perry as a judge on “American Idol” and the latest “Bachelor” host – they have all faced trash talk from fans.
