‘Jeopardy!’ host Ken Jennings says he was caught ‘off guard’ by Mayim Bialik’s exit from show

Ken Jennings is breaking his silence about the departure of his former “Jeopardy!” co-host, Mayim Bialik.

Bialik, who took over shared hosting duties for the beloved game show with Jennings after longtime host Alex Trebek died in 2020, announced earlier this month that she was leaving the show. Now, Jennings is sharing that the news took him by surprise.

“It took me off guard, because I loved working with my Mayim, and I’m gonna miss her,” he said in a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter. “I can’t speak to her decision-making process or her opinions about it.”

Ken Jennings addressed former fellow ‘Jeopardy!’ host Mayim Bialik‘s firing publicly for the first time in a story published by the Hollywood Reporter on Tuesday (December 26).

“It took me off guard, because I loved working with my Mayim and I’m gonna miss her,” Jennings said.

Jennings, the longest-reigning ‘Jeopardy’ champion and highest-earning American game show contestant of all-time, added that he “can’t speak to her decision-making process” or any “opinions” on the firing when asked about Bialik, who he shared hosting duties with since 2022, following the death of longtime ‘Jeopardy!’ host Alex Trebek in 2020. Jeopardy! Host Ken Jennings Comments on Mayim Bialik’s Ouster

Jennings took over Bialik’s share of the Jeopardy! hosting duties after she left to support the SAG-AFTRA strike.

Jeopardy! host Ken Jennings said he was taken off-guard when Mayim Bialik exited the long-running game show. Jennings, who has has shared hosting duties with Bialik since the since July of last year, will now take over Bialik’s share of the job, which included hosting Celebrity Jeopardy! and other primetime specials. Her star power made sense in that scenario, but hardcore fans of the show never really seemed to let of the idea of Jennings replacing the late Alex Trebek as host. The compromise lasted for about a year, until Bialik stepped away from the show during the Writers Guild of America strike.
