The US House of Representatives on Wednesday approved legislation that would require TikTok’s Chinese parent company, ByteDance, to sell it within 180 days… or risk having the app barred from app stores and web hosting services in the United States.

The vote was 352 in favor; 65 opposed.  Pretty impressive disapproval of a social media company’s ownership model.  The supporters of the bill didn’t like the fact that ByteDance might be providing user data to the Chinese government, letting the Communists know which dancing cat video is most popular among Americans.

Our economic system is threatened.  And also, maybe our own home-grown social media empires.

Puna group dedicated to ‘āina stewardship to host festival celebrating Hawaiian culture, community and wellness : Big Island Now

A Puna nonprofit dedicated to helping men stay clean and sober through community service and mālama ‘āina (caring for the land) will hold its first Makahiki Cultural Festival in January, an event celebrating Hawaiian culture, community resilience and holistic wellness.

The event, hosted by the Men of Pa‘a (firm, solid, immovable), will take place during the Makahiki season, an ancient Hawaiian New Year festival that honors Lono, the Hawaiian god of fertility.

The Big Bang Theory star Mayim Bialik has announced that she won’t be hosting Jeopardy! anymore.

Bialik has been sharing hosting duties of the syndicated (the daily versions that air on all sorts of different American networks) with Ken Jennings for the last few years, although she stepped back from hosting duties in solidarity with the WGA strike earlier in the year.

In an Instagram post, Bialik explained that the decision wasn’t hers.
