SD bridge near Huron to be dedicated in honor of U.S. Army First Lieutenant Thomas M. Martin

The South Dakota Department of Veterans Affairs will be hosting a State Bridge Dedication Ceremony today (Oct. 14, 2023) to honor U.S. Army First Lieutenant Thomas M. Martin, son of career military parents, SGM Ed Martin  (U.S. Army retired) and CW5 Candy Martin (U.S. Army retired). 

The ceremony will be held at 10:00 a.m. (CT) at the South Dakota Military Heritage Alliance in Sioux Falls (1600 W. Russell Street).

The James River Bridge on US HWY 14, near Huron, will be dedicated to 1LT Martin.

Martin, who was born in Huron, was assigned to 1st Squadron, 40th Calvary Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team (Airborne). He died October 14, 2007, in Al Busayifi, Iraq, of wounds sustained when insurgents attacked his unit using small-arms fire during combat operations.

SD bridge near Pierpont to be dedicated in honor of U.S. Army Warrant Officer Roger S. Cameron

The South Dakota Department of Veterans Affairs will be hosting a State Bridge Dedication Ceremony today (October 7, 2023) to honor U.S. Army Warrant Officer Roger S. Cameron.

The ceremony will be at 2:30 p.m. (CT) at the Community Building in Pierpont (311 W. Main Street).

The Mud Creek Bridge on SD HWY 27, at Lake Pierpont, will be dedicated to WO1 Cameron.

Cameron distinguished himself while serving as a helicopter pilot gunner. His fire team was sent to My-Tho, Vietnam on January 31, 1968, and came under immediate attack by enemy .50 machineguns. Cameron was killed while engaging the enemy.

Rocket.Chat Raises US$10M in Series A Bridge Funding

Rocket.Chat, a Wilmington Del.-based startup that provides an open-source chat platform, raised US$ 10m in a Series A “bridge” funding round.

The round was led by Alexia Ventures, Endeavor Catalyst, Endeavor Scaleup Ventures, Bob Young (Founder of RedHat), NEA and Valor Capital Group, in addition to investors such as Greycroft, Monashees, DGF, and Graphene.

The company, which had already raised US$19m in February 2021, intends to use the funds for Research & Development and commercial expansion.

Springfield area bridge to be dedicated today in honor of U.S. Army Lieutenant Peter H. Monfore

The South Dakota Department of Veterans Affairs will be hosting a State Bridge Dedication Ceremony at 2pm CT this afternoon (Sept. 16, 2023) to honor U.S. Army Lieutenant Peter H. Monfore, son of Howland and Gertrude Monfore of Springfield and Sioux Falls.

The ceremony will be at the Community Services Center in Springfield (605 8th Street).

The Emanuel Creek Bridge on SD HWY 50, west of Tyndall, will be dedicated to Lt Monfore.

On September 19, 1951, his company was ordered to lead a night assault on Hill 851 during the battle of Heartbreak Ridge in North Korea. His company was successful in capturing Hill 851. Monfore was killed in action that day while defending his position on Hill 851.

Services on busy rail line suspended following bridge strike

TRAIN services remain suspended between Mullingar and Enfield following an incident.

The latest report from Iarnród Éireann noted that engineers were “en route” to complete an inspection after a vehicle hit a bridge in the area. 

“Services remain suspended between Mullingar and Enfield,” they commented via Twitter.

“11:05 Sligo – Connolly held at Killucan crossing point to proceed once bridge inspection has been completed. Update to follow,” Iarnród Éireann added.
