Google Meet is not introducing a button to turn on all cameras at once

A number of posts on social media have shared a screenshot appearing to show a new button on Google Meet that turns on all participants’ cameras instantly.

The screenshot shows the usual interface of a Google Meet call, but with the addition of a new button at the bottom bar alongside the ‘mute’ and ‘hang up’ buttons. The button is an eye-shaped icon and a box above it says “this button instantly turns on the cameras for all 86 participants”.

Many people sharing the image on Facebook and Twitter appear to believe that the alleged plans for Google Meet are genuine. One post, with more than 2,300 likes and 260 shares on Facebook, has the caption “Aaaaaand I’m fired [sic]”.

Another post describes the suggestion as “horrific” and a tweet

Tesla Employees Shared Video Captured From Customers’ Car Cameras

Tesla employees shared sensitive videos and images recorded by customers’ car cameras, a Reuters investigation(Opens in a new window) finds.

Content recorded by built-in cameras used to assist driving was routinely shared between employees via an internal messaging system between 2019 and 2022, the reports says.

As Reuters notes, some of the shared content shows people in compromising situations: one video, for example, shows a man approaching a Tesla completely naked. Others include footage from car crashes and road rage incidents.

According to an ex-Tesla worker, the videos and images were shared between two employees or in private group chats that included “scores” of other employees. Some of the content, specifically pictures of dogs and funny road signs, were turned into…

Traffic cameras in Leeds city centre cannot ‘capture faces’

A video posted on Facebook claims that Leeds city centre now has traffic cameras that “capture faces”.

But a spokesperson for Leeds City Council confirmed that this is not true.

The video, which has 5,000 shares on Facebook and originally appeared on TikTok, shows footage of streets in Leeds city centre. Text on top of the video says: “15 minute cities are coming”.

The “15 minute city” refers to an urban planning concept where all necessary amenities are within a 15 minute walk or cycle of people’s homes.

Full Fact has previously written about many false claims that relate to 15 minute cites as part of our work countering misinformation online.

We have also fact checked claims relating to personal data, including that Asda self-service checkouts

New speed cameras with a limit of 72mph haven’t been set up on the M1 or M25

A number of posts claiming that all cameras on the M1 and M25 motorways will go live “tonight”, with a maximum speed limit of 72 miles per hour, have been shared on Facebook over the past week.

One post reads: “Just a heads up. All cameras in UK on M1 and M25 go live at midnight tonight, set at 72mph. Auto ticket generating system. Watch your speed and tell everyone else to.”

A spokesperson for National Highways (the government company responsible for operating and maintaining motorways and major A roads) told Full Fact claims to this effect are “untrue”.

We have previously debunked the same claim when it was made in 2019 and similar claims about the M60 and M62

It’s not clear why this misinformation has reappeared online, though roads are expected…
