Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, St. Peter Church hosting Hidden Treasures tours

Both St. Peter’s Church, 3655 Oberlin Ave. in Lorain, and Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church, 418 W. 15th St. in Lorain, have been around for over a century.

Still, Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary parish historian Philip Bak believes both are hidden gems of the city.

Bak, along with other members of both congregations, will host a Hidden Treasures tour of both churches on Sept. 24.

The free event will be a guided tour of both churches, he said, meant to showcase what makes each of the buildings special.

“We’re going to have a tour of important and interesting artifacts, and artistic items of the two churches,” Bak said. “It’s a chance for people to see them, because maybe some people have stopped going to church or haven’t been in our churches ever.”

First Christian Church of Vallejo hosting symposium on Saturday – Times Herald Online

As part of its 125th anniversary celebration, First Christian Church of Vallejo is holding a special event titled, “Even Jesus Was a Refugee” Immigration Symposium on Saturday from 9 a.m. until noon in its Fellowship Hall.

The church is asking the public to join “for a thought-provoking event discussing the topic of immigration through the lens of faith, history, law, and economics.”

“It can be difficult to navigate through polarizing topics, especially ones that shouldn’t be polarizing! So this is a great time for you and your organization to gain knowledge of how to effectively diffuse the rhetoric and learn to treat everyone as Jesus would have,” a news release states.

Town Clock Church hosting dedication for central gasolier | News

NEW ALBANY — The beautiful central gasolier in the Town Clock Church will be dedicated at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Second Baptist Church at 300 E. Main St. in New Albany.

All are welcome to share in the event. Parking is available in the lot across from the church at Third and Main Street.

When the church was dedicated on July 30, 1852 after three years of construction, the main sanctuary had five brass gasoliers, made possible by the newly gasified city.
