Pirate Sites Face a More Challenging Hosting Climate in Europe * TorrentFreak

Home > Law and Politics >

Law-abiding hosting providers don’t openly and explicitly welcome pirate sites. At the same time, many of these third-party service providers have historically taken a neutral position in copyright conflicts. However, under EU law and supporting legal precedents, hosting companies are required to take action against infringement, as doing nothing can become quite costly.

serverastraEarlier this month, torrent search engine MagnetDL mysteriously went offline, and there’s still no trace of the site today.

The site had previously gone offline after it faced copyright-related hosting challenges, which may have also played a role in its disappearance.

MagnetDL’s recent troubles were followed by the voluntary shutdown of pirate streaming site Animeflix a few…

Labour MP Criticises UAE For Hosting COP28 Climate Change Summit While Producing Oil

Labour MP Malcolm Paul Agius Galea has criticised the choice of the United Arab Emirates, one of the world’s largest oil producers, as host of this year’s COP28 climate change summit.

“The UAE economy relies on oil, a fossil fuel, which creates toxic gases that escalate climate change,” Agius Galea said in Parliament this week.

He said it was very ironic that Sultan al-Jaber, chief executive of the UAE’s state-oil firm Adnoc, was chosen as president of COP28.

“His role clashes significantly with his role at COP28; it was quite annoying and there was a lot of resistance to it,” he said.

“A few days ago, he slipped up big time when he said he wants to use the money they are generating to contribute to combating climate change. When I hear such things, I shake my head…

Combatting Climate Change: Founders Moving Carbon in the GCC

Throughout the last century, the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), comprising Arab States in the region, has been helping meet the world’s voracious appetite for energy through the supply of fossil fuels. Hundreds of millions of barrels of oil have helped the world move forward, though this has come at a cost.

The GCC region has an acute understanding of the need to start working towards alternatives to the carbon-heavy fuels of yesterday as well as starting the revolution to pull down gigatonnes of carbon (CO2) that have already made their way into the atmosphere.

Hosting COP28 is just a small indication of the region’s leadership and appetite for taking the proverbial climate bull by the horns and starting to wrestle it down into the ground.

Those who have stepped…
