An image circulating on social media claims to show US Vice President and Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris’s communist party membership card. But the picture is fake and was likely created using an online communist party card generator.

One post on X, formerly Twitter, has been viewed more than 60,000 times and is captioned “Communist Party Kamala? Say it ain’t so Joe.” The image includes some printed text claiming Ms Harris received the Communist Party of the Soviet Union ‘document’ in 1984, and that the New York Times reported on the communist party credential. The picture has also been shared on Facebook.

A video circulating on social media appears to show Democratic presidential candidate and current US Vice President, Kamala Harris, with her running mate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, posing for a selfie in front of a Revolutionary Communists of America poster. 

But the sign has been digitally altered. The original footage shows it actually referenced Mr Walz’s past role as a high school football coach during his career as a school teacher. 

Several media reports and photographs from an event on 9 August in Phoenix, Arizona, show Ms Harris and Mr Walz in front of two posters. The larger one has a brown background and says “Kamala and the Coach”. The other is smaller and reads: “Democrats protect abortion”. 

In altered versions of the footage being shared…

A screenshot shared in a tweet by Andrew Bridgen (a former Conservative MP who currently sits as an independent after having had the whip withdrawn earlier this year) purports to show a list of “Communist Rules For Revolution”. Mr Bridgen shared it with the words: “These rules were written in 1919. Over 100 years later people have intrinsically not changed that much. We should all read and study this, it must be resisted at all cost.”

This list dates back several decades, and has been widely labelled a hoax.
