Tech giants Google and Microsoft each consumed 24 TWh each of electricity during 2023, surpassing the consumption of more than 100 countries, new research has claimed.

Analysis by Michael Thomas, shared on X, claims both Google and Microsoft consumed the same amount of energy as Azerbaijan, which has an estimated GDP of $78.7 billion. Google’s 2023 revenue stood at $307.4 billion, and Microsoft’s at $211.9 billion.

Tech firms consume more than many countries

Iceland, Ghana, the Dominican Republic and Tunisia each consumed 19 TWh, while Jordan consumed 20 TWh, highlighting the two tech firms’ immense scale. Libya (25 TWh) and Slovakia (26 TWh) consumed slightly more power.

The UK Cabinet Office is looking to hire a head of workforce strategy and transformation to work within its Central Digital and Data Office (CDDO). 

The CDDO leads the government’s digital and data function and exists to help state departments achieve digital transformation across their operations and services.

CAIRO – 20 June 2024: Egypt observed World Refugee Day, an annual United Nations event honoring refugees worldwide, and called for intensified global efforts to alleviate pressures on countries hosting them.


In a statement on Thursday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Egypt currently hosts refugees and asylum seekers from 62 different nationalities.


“Egypt has long provided a safe haven for those who have sought refuge within its borders, driven by challenging circumstances in their home countries,” the statement said.
