Lorraine Kelly catches COVID, Carol Vorderman drafted in to host

Lorraine Kelly is off sick after testing positive for COVID-19, with Carol Vorderman drafted in to host her show.

The 62-year-old TV presenter revealed she had “finally” contracted coronavirus over two years into the pandemic and was isolating at home, while the former Countdown star stepped in to replace her at the last minute.

Kelly revealed on social media: “The dreaded COVID has finally caught up with me. I am so thankful to the scientists who developed the vaccine!”

She added: “I tested positive at the weekend. Thanks to the vaccine it’s not too bad and I hope to be back at work very soon. Huge thanks to @carolvorderswho will be hosting @lorraine until I’m back.”

Covid vaccine project using fragments of HIV was cancelled in 2020

A Facebook video uploaded on 19 September shows an interview about a potential Australian Covid-19 vaccine that was created using “a tiny fragment of HIV”. The clip has been shared now without the context that this vaccine was never rolled out and the project was stopped in late 2020.

The video is originally from a BBC Horizon documentary from June 2021. Similar clips of the show were shared on social media in February 2022, as we wrote about at the time.

Bad information about vaccines can lead to harm if people make decisions based on it. We have written about vaccine misinformation many times, including claims about Covid and other vaccines and HIV/AIDS.

Pfizer hasn’t been fined $2.3 billion for fraud relating to Covid vaccines

A post on Instagram, liked more than 28,000 times, appears to link a press conference about pharmaceutical company Pfizer being fined $2.3 billion with the Covid-19 vaccines. 

The Instagram reel features a clip of then-US associate attorney general Thomas Perrelli  saying: “Pfizer has agreed to pay $2.3 billion, the largest healthcare fraud settlement in the history of the Department of Justice. Within that $2.3 billion is a criminal fine of $1.195 billion, which makes it the largest criminal fine in history.”
