India To Host Men’s Asia Cup In 2025 In T20 Format: Report

Asia Cup 2025: India will be hosting the next edition of Men’s Asia Cup which is scheduled to be played in 2025 and will be played in T20 format.

According to the Invitation for Expressions of Interest for the sponsorship rights document issued by the Asian Cricket Council, a total of 13 matches will be played in the tournament that will feature six teams.

India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan will participate in the marquee event and a sixth team will be picked through a qualifying event.

The tournament will be played in a 50-over format in Bangladesh in 2027.

Notably, the last T20I format-based Asia Cup was played in 2022 which was won by Sri Lanka in UAE.

Dallas’ Grand Prairie Stadium, which hosts the opening game of the T20 World Cup on 1 June, was reportedly left damaged due to thunderstorms on Tuesday morning that resulted in the warm-up game also getting called off.

The T20 World Cup warm-up match between USA and Bangladesh that was scheduled to take place on Tuesday had to be called off due to heavy thunderstorms, which ended up causing damage to the facilities at the Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas, Texas.

The two teams, who had recently played a three-match T20I series before the warm-up fixture, remained confined to their hotels after heavy rain caused damage to the ground that is later scheduled to host the tournament opener between co-hosts USA and neighbours Canada on 1 June.

Co-hosting T20 World Cup will expand sports awareness and popularity in country, says USA Cricket chairman

The 2024 T20 Cricket World Cup in the USA will serve multiple purposes, including raising the game’s awareness and popularity among the locals, given Los Angeles is playing host to the 2028 Summer Games, where cricket returns after over a century. The USA’s Cricket Chairman Venu Pisike shared his views on how the country is preparing for the 20-team tournament starting June 1. 

While cricket remains the top sport in most participating nations, it still needs to find its place in the West, mainly in the US and Canada. The ninth edition of the T20 WC will be America’s first when they play their debut game in this tournament against Canada on the opening day. These two teams are drawn in Group A alongside Ireland and two Asian giants, India and Pakistan.

The latest estimates put the price tag at between $483 million and $581 million, including costs for the city, the province and stadium upgrades.

However, the B.C. government says the event is expected to generate enough revenue to result in a net cost of between $100 million and $145 million.

Minister of Tourism Lana Popham said Tuesday the event will bring about 350,000 fans to the province and generate more…
