Elon Musk Warns TikTok Bill Is ‘About Censorship And Government Control’

On Tuesday, billionaire tech executive and X owner Elon Musk raised concerns about a bill making its way through Congress that seeks to clamp down on U.S. access to social media applications such as Chinese-owned TikTok unless they sever ties with foreign adversaries that are deemed a national security threat.

Musk, a self-described “free speech absolutist” who championed the “Twitter Files,” responded to a post from Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY) highlighting text from the legislation that addresses websites and businesses that provide services to social media platforms found to be in violation of proposed law.

“The so-called TikTok ban is a trojan horse. The President will be given the power to ban WEB SITES, not just Apps. The person breaking the new law is deemed to be the U.S….

Elon Musk Dubs US TikTok Bill ‘Censorship’ as Possible Ban Looms

Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk is not a fan of a US bill that would ban TikTok if it doesn’t sever its ties to China.

“This law is not just about TikTok, it is about censorship and government control!” Musk wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter, which he owns. “If it were just about TikTok, it would only cite ‘foreign control’ as the issue, but it does not.”

Musk was responding to assertions from Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY) that the TikTok bill is a “trojan horse” that gives the president the power to ban websites and targets US companies.

“The President will be given the power to ban WEB SITES, not just Apps,” Rep. Massie tweeted. “The person breaking the new law is deemed to be the U.S. (or offshore) INTERNET HOSTING SERVICE or App Store, not the ‘foreign adversary.'”

Elon Musk to Headline Writers: Drop Dead

The context collapse has escalated at the site formerly known as Twitter: Starting sometime yesterday, the previews that X automatically generates of shared links now strips them of headlines and displays only the lead art and the link’s domain name in the bottom-left corner.

For example, the preview card for my share of the story I wrote yesterday about Android 14 consisted of a header image we ran from Google PR, stamped with “pcmag.com.” Previously, the preview card would have included that image but also the headline and a snippet of the story’s text, which made it obvious you were looking at a shared link and not an attached photo.

The move, which Elon Musk argued in August would “greatly improve the [a]esthetics” of X, both strips possibly crucial context from posts…

Elon Musk to Provide Legal Support to Unfairly Treated X Users

Many have been wondering where the blue bird logo has disappeared to, as a black and white “X” logo suddenly took over. Elon Musk has taken over Twitter and renamed it ‘X’.

With Musk’s lead in the initiative, X aims to provide a space for free expression. While Twitter already was a platform for discussion, Musk’s X promises to prioritise free expression more actively.

Musk’s vision of free speech and its interpretation within X’s policies are still being outlined and observed.

Beyond the name, the transformation signifies Musk’s ambition to push the platform beyond standard social media boundaries.

The specifics remain under wraps, but Musk’s aspirations for a more encompassing digital environment are evident.

Elon Musk Announces New AI Start-Up To “Understand Reality”

Elon Musk never seems to stop making a splash in the technology world. Now, his latest move has been announced – the formation of a new artificial intelligence (AI) startup.

The Tesla boss has declared that the new company is called xAI, and it comes with a curious label attached: according to Mr Musk, the goal of this start-up is to “understand the true nature of the universe.”

This leaves the specific objectives and what kind of AI the company wants to focus on up to the imagination. After all, what exactly could the operations of a start-up created to “understand reality” be?

Elon Musk vs Artificial Intelligence

Although Mr Musk announcing a new endeavour in the tech sector is unsurprising, this particular one comes as a bit of a revelation. This year,…
