The story so far: On 16 February, an unauthorised third-party gained access to GoDaddy servers in its cPanel shared hosting environment, the company shared in a blog post. Attackers installed malware on servers causing intermittent redirection of customer websites to malicious sites leading to increased chances of successful phishing campaigns. Explained | Why web hosting providers are de-platforming Kiwi Farms?

The story so far: Internet infrastructure provider Cloudflare caved in to pressure on Saturday. The U.S.-based company blocked the notorious messaging board Kiwi Farms from its platform. Their decision to de-platform the site came after Canadian activist Clara Sorrenti and her supporters strongly criticised the company for providing security to the site against DDoS attacks. Ms. Sorrenti claimed that Kiwi Farms organised a swatting campaign against her, which led to her arrest in August. While the web-hosting service first expressed its discomfort with the idea last week, Cloudflare confirmed on September 4 that it had blocked Kiwi Farms. A day later, the Russia-based DDoS-Guard also announced it was terminating DDoS protection services for a version of the Kiwi Farms website.

Explained: European Union ground rules for Web

The European Parliament and European Union (EU) Member States announced on Saturday that they had reached a political agreement on the Digital Services Act (DSA), a landmark legislation to force big Internet companies to act against disinformation and illegal and harmful content, and to “provide better protection for Internet users and their fundamental rights”.

The Act, which is yet to become law, was proposed by the EU Commission (anti-trust) in December 2020. As defined by the EU Commission, the DSA is “a set of common rules on intermediaries’ obligations and accountability across the single market”, and ensures higher protection to all EU users, irrespective of their country.
