Thousands share fake Facebook motorhome competition

Thousands of people have shared a Facebook post claiming that social media users who share and comment on it could win a luxury motorhome. 

Alongside more than 30 pictures of the vehicle supposedly involved, the post says: “Due to having a few small dents and scratches we have been unable to sell this Supreme Aire 4051 in our showroom, rather than flog it as second hand we have decided to bring some joy by giving it to someone who has Shared then commented winner will be selected in July Delivery should be within 2 weeks.. [sic]”

But there is no evidence to suggest this offer is genuine, and the company selling the pictured motorhome have confirmed the vehicle is not involved in any giveaway.

Promotions on Facebook for £2 PlayStation consoles at Argos are fake

Posts on Facebook are claiming to be offering PlayStation 5 consoles for less than £2 from Argos. But the offers are not genuine. 

One of the posts appears on a Facebook page with only three followers and claims the consoles were used in “demo presentations”. The other fake offer is posted by a page that has 27 followers and claims the consoles were formerly used at “trade shows”.  

Both posts show photos of PlayStation 5 boxes in a store with an Argos sign advertising the consoles for £1.78. 

A spokesperson for Argos told Full Fact that: “These are not genuine offers.

A ‘Guardian’ opinion article supporting looting in France is fake

Posts showing a screenshot of a fake Guardian article about looting during the riots in France have been shared widely on social media

The image shows what appears to be a Guardian opinion piece with the headline: “I fully support the looting in France by the disenfranchised black youth. Call it reparations”. 

The sub-heading goes on to say: “It’s not looting when intergenerational trauma forces thousands to seek reparations for being sold into slavery.”

It has been widely shared on Twitter and has also appeared on Facebook

But this is not a genuine article. A quick Google search shows that no articles with such a headline exist on the Guardian’s website.

Thousands share fake appeal for missing child ‘Sofia’

Hoax posts appealing for information about a missing five-year-old named Sofia have been shared thousands of times on Facebook. 

Full Fact has seen examples of these alerts shared in more than a dozen community groups serving locations across the UK, with some in places such as Newport, Bexleyheath and Bristol racking up hundreds of shares each. 

The posts all use very similar text, which says: “Help!!! MISSING Child!! [location]

“My grand daughter Sofia only 5years old went out on her bike earlier today and she still hasn’t returned.She doesn’t know where she’s going, new surroundings.

“There is a silver alert activated on her. Please help bump this post so we can get her home safely!! [sic]”
