Chris Rock Came Under Fire for Harsh O.J. Simpson Joke to Refuse Hosting the Oscars

Chris Rock made a tasteless comment when he compared his Oscar-hosting situation with the late Nicole Brown Simpson case. Rock was at the receiving end of Will Smith’s infamous Oscar slap that landed the latter a decade-long ban from the Academy. So when Rock was asked to host the 2023 Awards, it was clearly too soon, and Rock’s reply analogy turned out to be a little controversial.

During one of his standup specials, Rock shared that the Academy offered him the Oscars host role the very next year after the Slap. He shared that asking him to host was just like asking Nicole Brown Simpson to revisit the evidence against O.J. Simpson.

Amazon Will Fire Employees Who Refuse To Work From Office – Trak.in

Amazon has started calling employees back to offices for three days a week.

Amazon Will Fire Employees Who Refuse To Work From Office – Trak.in

It has made this mandatory and has empowered managers to fire those who refuse to comply.

Strict mandate

This comes nearly a month after CEO Andy Jassy said the prospects of employees who refused to work from office were dim.

“If you can’t disagree and commit, it’s probably not going to work out for you at Amazon,” he said.

The company shared guidelines and manager talking points through an internal portal earlier this week.

Managers are directed to follow a three-step process.

3-Step process

According to the guidelines, managers first have to engage in a private conversation with employees who don’t comply with the three-times-a-week requirement.

The conversation is intended to make clear that…

Picture of Emmanuel Macron in front of fire is AI-generated

A picture circulating on social media appears to show French President Emmanuel Macron sitting on a chair in the middle of the street, a pile of rubbish burning behind him.

This isn’t a real photo—it appears to have been created using Artificial Intelligence (AI).

Full Fact was unable to find any evidence the president sat for such a picture, and it bears a resemblance to other AI images that have been shared online amid the recent riots in France.

We have found versions of the images shared online since as early as March.

There has been widespread unrest in the country since 27 June, when a police officer shot and killed a 17-year-old named Nahel M in a Paris suburb during a traffic stop.

We have not been able to find the original version of the AI…

Video of high rise on fire is from UAE, not France

A post on Twitter with over 3,000 shares claims to show a high rise building on fire, apparently in France. This follows riots in the country after a 17-year-old boy, Nahel M, was shot dead by a police officer in a Paris suburb.

The same video has also been shared a number of times on Facebook, often alongside claims that social media and other forms of reporting are being censored by authorities.

Despite the French flags overlaid on the video, it actually depicts a fire at a residential building in Ajman in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) that happened on 27 June. Other videos and images from that event match the video being shared online, which appears to have been filmed from the street below.

According to news media coverage, there were no immediate reports of…
