Footage does not show a large explosion on Baltimore bridge before collapse

A video of an explosion on a bridge has been circulating on social media with false claims it shows an “alternate angle” of the collapse of the Francis Scott Key bridge in Baltimore, in the US.

The footage shows cars travelling both ways across a bridge before a significant explosion. The clip does not show the bridge collapsing.

One post sharing the video on X (formerly Twitter) has more than 2,700 shares and says: “Alternate angle on Francis Scott Key bridge shows a large explosion”. The clip has also been shared multiple times on Facebook with the same caption.

This comes as the Francis Scott Key bridge collapsed on the morning of 26 March 2024 after a 290-metre-long Singapore-flagged container ship collided with it. A number of vehicles are believed to be…

CCTV footage of mother and baby separated on a metro platform is staged

A video appearing to show CCTV footage of a woman being separated from a baby while boarding the Paris metro has been circulating online. But this is not real CCTV footage and the scene has been staged.

The black-and-white footage shows a woman struggling to lift a pram into a metro carriage when the doors close with the woman onboard and the pram on the platform. A time and location stamp suggests the incident took place after midnight on “Line 7”, while both the logo on the carriage and a sign for ‘Louis Blanc’ station suggest it was filmed in a metro station in the 10th arrondissement of Paris.

Some versions of the clip go on to show a man interacting with the baby and swinging the pram close to the edge of the platform. They have overlaid text saying a…

Footage of dead birds on a frozen lake is from South Dakota, not China

Multiple posts on social media falsely claim a video shows hundreds of birds that were supposedly killed by severe temperatures of -52°C in Xinjiang, China.

In fact, the footage comes from South Dakota in the US.

The video seemingly shows hundreds of dead birds frozen to the surface of an expanse of water.

It has been shared on both X (formerly Twitter) and Facebook with the caption: “Today, temperatures in Xinjiang, China dropped 45° [sic] almost instantly to a low of -52℃ (-61.6℉), kiIIing hundreds of waterfowl. Will they blame this on global warming?”

While temperatures in Xinjiang, in the north west of China, were reported to have reached -52°C in recent days, the video does not show scenes from this region.

The video was first shared by an

A video shared online falsely claims to show a woman injured by an alleged “Israel” white phosphorus “bomb”.

The video is nearly a minute long, and at first shows a road with a number of cars turning around and driving out of frame. A wave gradually comes into shot, carrying with it a host of debris including cars and houses.

The post on X says: “This security footage shows the moment the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami hit Khao Lak in Thailand. The disaster went on to claim the lives of an estimated 227,898 people in 14 countries.”
