An image is being shared online with false claims it shows the US Secret Service agents who escorted Donald Trump away after he was shot were not wearing earpieces.

The photo, which has been circulating on X (formerly Twitter) and Facebook, has the caption: “Apparently Secret Service agents are now on leave as the investigation grows. 

“Trump apparently never went to the hospital?!?! 

“Someone made a great point – none of these Secret Service agents have their earpieces in…”

In the image being shared, the Republican presidential candidate is being helped off stage by a number of Secret Service agents wearing suits, who do not appear to be wearing earpieces.

A photo showing the Kremlin without any lights on is being shared on social media alongside claims Moscow faces a severe electricity shortage due to Western sanctions. 

One post sharing the photo says: “BREAKING Russia: Moscow remains dark due to severe electricity shortage The reason is reported to be in difficulties at servicing foreign turbines at Russian thermal power plants due to Western sanctions [sic]”. Other posts have almost identical text. 

But the photo does not show a recent electricity shortage—it was shared in a 2014 article about ‘Earth Hour’, the annual WWF event that encourages people to turn off non-essential lights—such as those on famous landmarks—to raise awareness for climate change. A picture appearing to show a number of police officers kneeling as though in prayer in front of a group of men in Islamic dress has been shared widely on Threads. 

What the post fails to mention, however, is that the image is AI-generated. Some of the comments in the thread appear to indicate that people believe it to be genuine. 

The same picture has also been shared widely on X (formerly Twitter), in the aftermath of violent disorder which took place across England and Northern Ireland following the fatal stabbing of three children in Southport on 29 July. 

Very quickly an incorrect name, “Ali Al-Shakati”, spread online, alongside claims he had recently come to the UK on a small boat, or was Muslim or Syrian.

A clip of Michelle Obama’s speech to the Democratic National Convention is being shared on social media with altered audio.

In the video, which is circulating on X (formerly Twitter) and Facebook, the former First Lady can be seen speaking at the Chicago event on 21 August.

In the footage, Mrs Obama appears to say: “For years, Donald Trump did everything in his power to try to make people fear us. 

“See his limited, narrow view of the world made him feel threatened by the existence of two hardworking, highly educated, successful gay men who happen to be black.”

A caption also being shared with the clip says: “Did Michelle Obama just say what I think she said?”

But the video has been edited, and Mrs Obama made no reference to gay men in her speech.

A video circulating on social media appears to show Democratic presidential candidate and current US Vice President, Kamala Harris, with her running mate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, posing for a selfie in front of a Revolutionary Communists of America poster. 

But the sign has been digitally altered. The original footage shows it actually referenced Mr Walz’s past role as a high school football coach during his career as a school teacher. 

Several media reports and photographs from an event on 9 August in Phoenix, Arizona, show Ms Harris and Mr Walz in front of two posters. The larger one has a brown background and says “Kamala and the Coach”. The other is smaller and reads: “Democrats protect abortion”.
