GoDaddy’s IPO to value web-hosting company at up to $2.87 billion

(Reuters) – Web-hosting company GoDaddy Inc’s initial public offering is expected to value the company at up to $2.87 billion, and comes at a time when there has been a steep fall in the number of companies going public in the United States.

Including debt, the company could be valued at $4 billion.

The IPO market has had a slow start this year compared with 2014 when U.S. IPOs raised about $93 billion, the highest since 2000.

Only two technology companies have gone public this year including online data storage provider Box Inc (BOX.N), whose shares have dropped about 27 percent since the company’s market debut in January.

GoDaddy’s new tool lets you accept payments without an online store or website

Domain registrar and web hosting (opens in new tab) company GoDaddy has launched a new system that allows business owners to register a new domain and start accepting payments from customers instantly.

Payable Domains are branded pay links that create a checkout page, shareable via a link, that lets US-based domain name customers begin accepting payments shortly after they purchase a newly registered domain.

GoDaddy’s multi-year security breach a ‘damaging blow’ to user confidence

GoDaddy’s latest data breach revelations could deal a serious blow to user confidence, security experts have warned.

The US firm revealed last week that it had fallen victim to a ‘multi-year’ security incident which invoilved hackers stealing source code and installing malware that redirected hosted sites to malicious pages.  

In an SEC filing on 16 February, the domain hosting service confirmed that several security incidents spanning nearly three years were carried out by the same threat actor(s).  

GoDaddy said that, in December, an initial investigation into customer complaints that their websites were being “intermittently redirected” found that an unauthorised third party had gained access to servers in the company’s cPanel shared hosting environment.
