Google Cloud gets into web3 act with managed blockchain node service • TechCrunch

Five years ago the blockchain was blossoming in the enterprise, or so many companies had us believe. Back then, companies like SAP and IBM were trying to build blockchain practices, but while the technology sounded good to solve myriad problems in the enterprise, it never really took off.

Fast forward to 2022 and the blockchain comes under a new guise with the name web3 as an umbrella term and lots of VC money behind it. So perhaps it shouldn’t come as a surprise that the cloud platform companies want to get into the act.

To that end, Google Cloud announced today that it’s launching Blockchain Node Engine, which it’s billing as “a fully managed node-hosting for web3 development.” Earlier this year, the company announced that it was launching a new…

Google Updates Its Guide on Preventing Spam and Abuse

In a welcome update for website owners, Google made clear changes to its spam and abuse resource center on Google Search Central.

The biggest updates include more robust suggestions to prevent abuse and identify spam accounts, instead of focusing on how to monitor for it.

Preventing Spam and Abuse

Previous to this page update, the first section discussed “Web hosting services that are available without payment”. It is now replaced with “Prevent abuse on your site and platform”.

The previous section seemed to focus on websites that used hosting services without payment. However, spam and abuse happens on even the most secure sites.

The new and improved language gives all website owners more content to take actionable, preventable steps to protect their website.

Another stumbling block for Truth Social: Google bars app download over violent content

Truth Social, the social media platform backed by former president Donald Trump, aims to provide an “open, free and honest global conversation.” But one place would-be users won’t be free to access the service is on Google’s Play store. The internet giant says it isn’t allowing downloads of the app due to violent content.

The Google Play app store allows people to pre-register for Truth Social, but they can’t yet directly download the service from the site, unlike at Apple’s App Store. In a statement to CBS MoneyWatch, Google said that it had notified Truth Social on August 19 about “several violations of standard policies in their current app submission.”

The snag with Google is yet another stumbling block for Truth Social, which rolled out earlier this year and has since
