Canadian Taxpayers Federation is calling on B.C. to release its FIFA contract

A national government spending watchdog wants B.C. and the City of Vancouver to release the costs of hosting the 2026 FIFA Men’s World Cup, warning of an escalating price tag.

The Canadian Taxpayers Federation issued that call Thursday (March 14) after releasing the City of Toronto’s hosting contract with soccer’s world body. Toronto will host six games and Vancouver seven as two of 16 host cities spread across the United States, Mexico and Canada.

The Taxpayers Federation obtained Toronto’s contract through a freedom-of-information request. The hosting contracts of Seattle and Santa Clara near San Francisco are also publicly available.

Christian group urges Labour to back calls for ‘nudification’ ban

A Labour think tank has backed calls for a ban on artificial intelligence (AI) tools that allow users to digitally undress women and children.

It came after a poll by the Christian social policy charity CARE found that almost eight in ten Brits are in favour of a ban.

The poll asked participants if: “Websites and apps that use AI to simulate sexually explicit content such as undressing women and children should be banned by the government.”

Seven in ten respondents strongly agreed (69 per cent) and one in ten (10 per cent) somewhat agreed. The number of respondents who strongly agreed rises to almost eight in ten (75 per cent), discounting those who preferred not to answer.
