Bridge To Be Dedicated In Honor Of Fallen Soldier | Community

PIERRE — The South Dakota Department of Veterans Affairs will be hosting a State Bridge Dedication Ceremony to honor U.S. Army Staff Sgt. Gregory Wagner.

The ceremony will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 11, 2021, at the Hanson High School Gymnasium in Alexandria (600 Juniper St.).

The South Dakota Highway 38 bridge over the James River east of Mitchell will be dedicated to SSG Wagner.

Wagner graduated in 1989 from Hanson High School in Alexandria, and soon after enlisted in the South Dakota National Guard. His unit was deployed to Iraq in October 2005. On May 8, 2006, he died when his convoy was attacked in a Baghdad neighborhood. He was a member of the…

Arroyo Grande hosting public dedication, park renaming ceremony in honor of late police chief

ARROYO GRANDE, Calif. – The City of Arroyo Grande is hosting a public dedication and renaming ceremony on Saturday in honor of late Police Chief Beau D. Pryor.

Chief Pryor died the morning of April 21, 2021, at 50 years old.

He served as chief of the Arroyo Grande Police Department from 2017 until his retirement in mid-2020.

In light of his passing, AG City Council adopted a resolution to rename Police Tribute Park to “Chief Beau D. Pryor Memorial Park.”

The event will be held at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 25, at the Arroyo Grande Police Department

Hookstown post office to honor life of Sergeant Dylan Elchin

HOOKSTOWN — The Hookstown Post Office will be dedicated to a local hero this Monday. 

The post office is hosting a dedication ceremony to honor the life of Air Force Staff Sgt. Dylan J. Elchin at 1 p.m. The native of Brighton and Raccoon townships died while serving the country in Afghanistan during 2018.

Elchin was a Hopewell High School graduate who followed in the footsteps of his grandfather, who served eight years in the U.S. Army. After graduating in 2012, Elchin enlisted in the Air Force as a special tactics combat controller and was trained for combat operations like precision strikes, personnel recovery, reconnaissance, air traffic control and terminal attack control operations.

Bridge near McIntosh to be dedicated May 15 in honor of LCPL Flying Horse

The South Dakota Department of Veterans Affairs will be hosting a State Bridge Dedication Ceremony to honor Combat Veteran LCPL Conrad Lee Flying Horse.

 

The ceremony will be held Saturday, May 15, 2021, at 10am (MT) at the McIntosh School football field (one mile east of McIntosh on HWY 12 and 65 Junction).

 

The HWY 12 bridge one mile east of McIntosh will be dedicated to LCPL Flying Horse, of McIntosh, who died in combat on August 27, 1970, after suffering wounds received when an explosive went off. Flying Horse was serving in the Marine Corps in South Vietnam, Quang Nam province.
