Scott Mills shared concerns over hosting Zoe Ball’s BBC Radio 2 show before mysterious absence

Scott Mills, who is currently filling in for DJ Zoe Ball on the Radio 2 Breakfast Show, previously voiced his concerns about hosting a breakfast radio programme. In the final episode of Celebrity Race Around the World, which was broadcast on Wednesday 18 September and filmed earlier this year, Scott told his husband Sam Vaughan after a very early pre-dawn start during the final leg of the race: “Remind me not to do the breakfast show.”

Scott hasn’t heeded his own advice, and is currently having to get up very early to host the Radio 2 Breakfast Show as he is filling in for regular DJ Zoe Ball, who has been absent from her show for the past five weeks. The BBC have yet to state why 53 year old Zoe is away, and Scott and fellow DJ Gaby Roslin have been filling in since 8 August.

Hosting a party with a dog at home? Try this trainer’s top tips to keep your pup safe when you’re entertaining

Not every gathering is going to be dog-friendly, but sometimes you’ll be able to bring your pup to a party – or host one yourself. Dogs are social animals, and can really enjoy having so many people to get attention from – add a bunch of dog lovers into the mix, and it’s a match made in heaven!

But partying with your pup isn’t all fun and games. It can be stressful, too. At home, you might be really good at not leaving potentially dangerous things out for your pup to get to, but other people at a party or gathering might not even think about keeping chocolate and alcohol, for example, out of reach – wouldn’t your pup prefer one of the best long lasting dog chews instead?

Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, St. Peter Church hosting Hidden Treasures tours

Both St. Peter’s Church, 3655 Oberlin Ave. in Lorain, and Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church, 418 W. 15th St. in Lorain, have been around for over a century.

Still, Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary parish historian Philip Bak believes both are hidden gems of the city.

Bak, along with other members of both congregations, will host a Hidden Treasures tour of both churches on Sept. 24.

The free event will be a guided tour of both churches, he said, meant to showcase what makes each of the buildings special.

“We’re going to have a tour of important and interesting artifacts, and artistic items of the two churches,” Bak said. “It’s a chance for people to see them, because maybe some people have stopped going to church or haven’t been in our churches ever.”

San Jose’s Little Italy hosting festive events this fall

“Abbondanza” is a good word to describe the next few weeks in San Jose’s Little Italy, which is going to be home to several events as we head into the fall.

For starters, the latest downtown block party organized by the Urban Vibrancy Institute on Thursday should bring some crowds to Little Italy, a wedge of businesses and plazas on St. John Street next to the Guadalupe River Park.

Festivities get going at 5 p.m., with music from the Italica band — not an Italian Metallica cover band, as I’d hoped — and high-flying pizza-tossing demonstrations. If you prefer your food on a plate instead of flying through the air, though, you can grab a bite at any of the block’s eateries including Henry’s Hi-Life, Poor House Bistro, Torino Panino, Bibo’s and Paesano Ristorante.
