Wilmington Voices hosting free concerts to share love during divisive time

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A Wilmington vocal group is hosting two free concerts at the end of September to share peace and love during a divisive time ahead of the presidential election.

The Wilmington Voices was New Hanover County’s first premiere, professional vocal ensemble.

This concert series called “Music for a Scared Space” is happening on Sept 21, 7:30pm at St. Andrews-Covenant Presbyterian Church
1416 Market Street. The second concert will be on Sept 22, 4pm at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 16 North 16th Street.

Angela Burns is the founder and artistic director of Wilmington Voices. She said you will hear a range of songs and genres at the free concerts.

Big Brother host and icon Julie Chen-Moonves has never missed hosting an episode of Big Brother in its 24 year run….until tonight.

Chen announced today that she will not be at tonight’s show due to testing positive for COVID-19.

CBS has announced that in her place will be The Talk host Jerry O’Connell.

O’Connell is known for his roles in the movies Stand By Me, Jerry Maguire, Scream 2 and TV shows including My Secret Identity, Veronica Mars, Sliders, etc. He is married to actress Rebecca Romijn.

Osaka gears up for the 2025 World Expo with memories of hosting a half-century ago

OSAKA, Japan (AP) — Visitors to Tokyo and Kyoto might not realize it, but Osaka — one of Japan’s biggest and oldest cities, known more as a business hub than a tourist destination — is gearing up to host next year’s World Exposition.

The city has been plastered with the Expo’s red-and-blue “Myaku-Myaku” mascot for months and is abuzz with preparations. For many here, the excitement is mixed with nostalgia for the last World Expo hosted by Japan, back in 1970.

There are doubters, especially outside Osaka. Construction costs are turning out to be exponentially higher than expected. Preparations have been marred by political and business infighting. Abbotsford author Grace Fox hosting book signing on Sept. 20

Abbotsford author Grace Fox has announced a book signing celebrating the release of her latest – Names of God: Living Unafraid.

The event occurs at House of James bookstore (2743 Emerson St.) on from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 20.

Fox has now penned 14 books and stated that she wants to invite the community to join her for a special evening filled with stories, live music, book signing and refreshments.

“Names of God: Living Unafraid is a devotional study that examines seven of God’s Hebrew names and how they relate to our lives today,” she said in a press release. “God has shown us what he’s like through these names. In a world that’s scary, understanding who he is helps us live unafraid.”
