Tulsa nonprofit dedicated to child abuse prevention hosting silent auction

TULSA, Okla. — A Tulsa nonprofit that assists struggling families and advocates for preventing child abuse and neglect will be hosting a fundraiser.

The Parent Child Center of Tulsa will be raising money by hosting an art auction on April 25.

The mission of the Parent Child Center is “to prevent child abuse and neglect through education, treatment, and advocacy.”

“April’s Child Abuse Prevention Month, and we want to draw attention to the fact that there were 2,711 substantiated cases of child abuse in Tulsa,” Jennifer Legler told 2 News. “We really need to work together as a community. It’s a community issue, and certainly we can all pull together to child abuse.”

Legler is the vice president of development at the Center.

Literacy North Halton hosting Scrabble tournament fundraiser

It’s almost time to dig deep into your mental dictionary for a good cause.

Literacy North Halton is hosting its annual WordPlay fundraiser on Friday (April 26) at the Halton Hills Public Library, Georgetown branch.

The evening of Scrabble games kicks off at 6 p.m. Players can register online for $20 and there will be prizes. Participants can also download a pledge form to help the fundraising efforts.

The Mississauga Scrabble Club will be on hand to oversee the games.

There will be a cash bar and snacks available.

Sherrod Library hosting dead week events


As the end of the semester quickly approaches, ETSU students gear up for finals during the dead week. To help students during this time, Sherrod Library is hosting stress-relief events.  

Outreach and Distance Library Coordinator Jonathan Wilson shared the week is one of his favorites because it allows the library to give appreciation back to the students. “It’s a high anxiety part of the year,” said Wilson, “It’s our job to make that a little bit less stressful for you.”
