Bayou Preservation Association hosting 19th annual symposium

The Bayou Preservation Association, a Houston-area nonprofit dedicated to the education and preservation of the region’s bayous, is holding its 19th annual symposium virtually Sept. 28-29.

The theme of the event, “The Cost of Doing Nothing—Opting for Resilience,” will focus on the building of “resilient, sustainable communities,” according to outreach and engagement manager for the BPA, Ryan Francisco.

Part of the two-day symposium will focus on an “action agenda,” covering the ways residents can become involved in regional resilience to climate-related changes to the bayous.

Food donation drive to benefit FeedMore

Every Saturday in September, West Broad Village will host The Giving Table, a food donation drive to benefit FeedMore.

The event will run noon to 5 p.m. each day, and WBV also will host “Feed the Plate,” an educational craft-based event Sept. 17 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.

The story so far: Internet infrastructure provider Cloudflare caved in to pressure on Saturday. The U.S.-based company blocked the notorious messaging board Kiwi Farms from its platform. Their decision to de-platform the site came after Canadian activist Clara Sorrenti and her supporters strongly criticised the company for providing security to the site against DDoS attacks. Ms. Sorrenti claimed that Kiwi Farms organised a swatting campaign against her, which led to her arrest in August. While the web-hosting service first expressed its discomfort with the idea last week, Cloudflare confirmed on September 4 that it had blocked Kiwi Farms. A day later, the Russia-based DDoS-Guard also announced it was terminating DDoS protection services for a version of the Kiwi Farms website.
