Footage of people taking cover at a petrol station in Israel is not from Iran’s attack

A clip showing people running for cover at a petrol station has been shared online with false claims it shows scenes from Israel during Iran’s recent attack on 13 April. But the footage in question predates these events.

In the video, people at a petrol station can be seen running and ducking for cover as explosions are heard in the background and bright lights appear in the sky. The lights in the sky look very similar to other clips of missiles being intercepted by Israel’s Iron Dome.

The video of people at the petrol station has recently been shared widely online with captions like: “Video circulating of the arrival of the first batch of Iranian drones to Israel”. One post shared on 14 April says: “LIVE from Israel: sirens are going off throughout the…

Rocket launch video unrelated to Iran attack on Israel

A video is being shared on social media and by some news outlets with false claims it shows Iran’s attack on Israel with drones and missiles.

The night-time clip shows projectiles apparently being fired from the ground into the sky in a rapid barrage. Some versions of the footage include an emoji of Iran’s flag in the top right corner.

These claims have been shared on Instagram, X (formerly Twitter) and YouTube, and the video has also been included in video montages in news reports about Iran’s assault on 13 April

Actor and comedian Michael Rapaport also shared the video in two separate posts with his two million Instagram followers, adding in one: “The Iron Dome literally saved millions of life’s [sic] tonight”. We’ve contacted Mr Rapaport for…

Gary Lineker: Match Of The Day host removes social media post calling for Israel to be banned from football | Ents & Arts News

Match Of The Day host Gary Lineker has removed a social media post that called for Israel to be banned from international football.

The former England star, now one of the highest profile presenters on the BBC, retweeted a post by The Palestinian Campaign for the Academic and Cultural Boycott of Israel (PACBI) on X, formerly Twitter.

In the post, PACBI called for “international public and official pressure on international sporting bodies” – including football’s governing body FIFA and the International Olympic Committee (IOC) – to suspend Israel’s membership and ban it from international tournaments and games.

The group, affiliated with the wider Palestinian-led Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions movement (BDS), called for the boycott “until Israel ends its grave violations…

Manure dumped at French McDonald’s protesting meat supply not Israel

Multiple posts on social media falsely claim that a video clip of a truckload of manure dumped outside a branch of McDonald’s in France shows a protest against Israel amid the conflict with Hamas.

A video circulating on platforms including Facebook, X (formerly Twitter) and Instagram shows a red tipper truck dumping a large pile of steaming manure in the forecourt of a McDonald’s restaurant.

One Facebook post states: “Protests have taken place in France by dumping animal dung in front of a McDonald’s branch supporting Israel.”

But the footage is unrelated to the conflict in the Middle East. The manure was dumped as part of a protest by French farmers against the fast food outlets McDonald’s and Burger King over claims that the chains do not source enough meat…

Clip claiming to show new ‘iron beam’ system in Israel is taken from a video game

A video which has been viewed 5.8 million times on X (formerly Twitter) claiming to show a “New Iron Beam” defence system in Israel is actually taken from a video game.

The clip, which has also circulated on Facebook, shows explosions taking place in the air at night, which some on social media have claimed shows a new defence system, called the “iron beam”, in operation in Israel.

The “iron beam” is a laser weapon developed in Israel. It has not yet been used in the country.

However, the video in question is actually footage from the Arma 3 military simulation video game.

The clip is part of a longer video with footage from the game shared on YouTube on 11 October, intended to replicate Israel’s Iron Dome air defence system. The video description states…
