These companies are pushing back against the Texas abortion law

GoDaddy took down a website that allowed people to post tips about possible Texas abortions, in the latest example of businesses pushing back against the state’s new law.

A Texas law that bans abortion providers from carrying out terminations after fetal cardiac activity is detected, which is typically about six weeks into a pregnancy, went into effect this week after the Supreme Court opted not to intervene.

The web hosting service took down the site at about 8 pm Friday, according to Texas Right to Life, the organization that launched the website. GoDaddy did not respond to requests for comment, but said in a tweet Friday that it “informed the website owner yesterday that they have violated GoDaddy’s terms of service and have 24…

Law enforcement operation brings down VPN and hosting services used by cybercriminals

A joint law enforcement operation involving both the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation, the European Union Agency for Law Enforcement Cooperation and various national police forces have taken down three virtual private network services and associated web hosting operations used by cybercriminals.

The takedown, dubbed “Operation Nova” saw the seizure of domain names and server infrastructure used by insorg.org, inet.com and safe-inet.net. All three offered VPN and proxy services along with “bulletproof hosting.” Bulletproof hosting is a form of web hosting that offers leniency in terms of the material hosted and is regularly used for illegal activity such as online gambling and illegal pornography sites. U.S. LAW ENFORCEMENT JOINS INTERNATIONAL PARTNERS TO DISRUPT A VPN SERVICE USED TO FACILITATE CRIMINAL ACTIVITY | USAO-EDMI

DETROIT – United States Attorney Matthew Schneider announced today that law enforcement in the United States has worked jointly in support of an international takedown of a virtual private network (VPN), dubbed “Operation Nova.”  Domain names offered by an organization engaged in “bulletproof hosting” that provided assistance to cyber-criminals were seized, and related servers were shut down. U.S.-based servers used in the scheme were taken offline by U.S. authorities, while International partners did the same.

Schneider was joined in the announcement by Special Agent in Charge Timothy Waters of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) in Detroit.
