A Derbyshire couple have spoken of their experience of hosting a Ukrainian family to encourage more people to come forward and open up their home to help.

Hearing in the news about the plight of people in Ukraine following the Russian invasion inspired Sarah Green and her husband Neil, along with their 10-year-old son James, to offer a home for refugees through the Government’s Home for Ukraine scheme.

Bias in media can be both intentional and unintentional and manifests itself through the way news stories are reported, the language used, and the framing chosen. As news is a primary source of information on current events, the presence of bias can be dangerous. It is therefore essential to be able to recognize bias when consuming news media to ensure the truth is preserved.

A number of posts on Facebook wrongly claim to have identified a Metropolitan Police officer who attended an incident in London on 7 May where two dogs were shot dead by police. These posts have been shared thousands of times. 

The posts, which have also appeared on Twitter, compare two images—on the left a blurry photo of a police officer holding a gun, and to the right a clearer portrait of a man. 

However these are not the same man. The Metropolitan Police has confirmed that the man facing the camera in the clearer photograph on the right-hand side of the post is not a police officer and had no involvement with the incident.
