A Derbyshire couple have spoken of their experience of hosting a Ukrainian family to encourage more people to come forward and open up their home to help.

Hearing in the news about the plight of people in Ukraine following the Russian invasion inspired Sarah Green and her husband Neil, along with their 10-year-old son James, to offer a home for refugees through the Government’s Home for Ukraine scheme.

“I couldn’t imagine what it must be like in their shoes,” said Sarah. “We had the space and we all thought it was something we could do. We wanted to help.”

People Spending Over 850 Hours On Social Media

According to data presented by the Atlas VPN team, an average internet user now spends 144 minutes (2 hours and 24 minutes) on social media. This translates to an astonishing 876 hours or approximately 36.5 days per year.

These figures are derived from data provided by DataReportal. The data is based on a survey with internet users aged 16 to 64 about their social media usage habits.

Emerging markets exhibit longer social media use. Despite only 14.3% of Nigeria’s population being active social media users, individuals in the country devote an average of 238 minutes (equivalent to 3 hours and 58 minutes) of their daily time to social media, surpassing users in other countries examined in the study. Wrong man pictured in social media posts about Met Police shooting of two dogs

A number of posts on Facebook wrongly claim to have identified a Metropolitan Police officer who attended an incident in London on 7 May where two dogs were shot dead by police. These posts have been shared thousands of times

The posts, which have also appeared on Twitter, compare two images—on the left a blurry photo of a police officer holding a gun, and to the right a clearer portrait of a man. 

However these are not the same man. The Metropolitan Police has confirmed that the man facing the camera in the clearer photograph on the right-hand side of the post is not a police officer and had no involvement with the incident.
