NAMI Lorain County hosting ‘Alternative Pathways to Mental Illness’ workshop S

Gregory Klima, executive director of the National Alliance on Mental Illness of Lorain County, believes that long-term mental health requires three ingredients.

Two of the three common components — talk therapy and medication — can be relatively easy to come by, Klima said.

The third component is community, he said.

From noon to 6 p.m. Sept. 27, NAMI of Lorain County will present “Alternative Pathways to Mental Wellness” to help provide people with that elusive third ingredient, Klima said.

“That nontraditional extra helps bring it home,” he said. “It’s community, and it’s connection.

“When you go to talk therapy, you do it one-on-one with somebody. You’re not part of a community. When you take your medicine or you see your doctor, it’s just one-on-one.”

Kindersley hosting mental health camp for kids in February – WestCentralOnline

Thanks to the locally based mental health group Life is Worth Living, a set of special “Mental Health Kids Camps” are coming in the new year.

“Registration is now open for our Mental Health Kids Camps in Kindersley during the February break. The camp will run from February 20 – 22 with the mornings dedicated to ages 4-8 and the afternoons dedicated to ages 9-13.”

That was the message shared by the Life is Worth Living Facebook page back on December 21. Limited spots are available for both courses, the age 9+ youth presentation titled ‘Unpacking Brianne’s Backpack’, the other one for kids ages 4-8 titled ‘A Butterfly’s Transformation‘.

Norwood Public Schools to Host Parent Workshops During Mental Health Awareness Month

NORWOOD — Superintendent David Thomson is pleased to share that Norwood Public Schools will be hosting parent workshops throughout the month of May in honor of Mental Health Awareness Month.

Mental Health Awareness Month, observed in May, aims to bring awareness to the importance of mental health, fight stigma, provide support and advocate for policies that support millions affected by mental illness. 

All workshops will be offered to parents via Zoom and will start at 6:30 p.m. Zoom links will be shared via Parent Square.

Mental Health Startup Shared Patient Data With Google, Facebook, Meta

A telehealth startup that gained popularity during the pandemic has said it shared private patient data with tech giants Google, Meta, and TikTok for years.

As reported by TechCrunch(Opens in a new window), Cerebral, which is used by millions of people to search for therapy or mental health services, said it disclosed data collected from its online mental health self-assessment with third-party advertisers, as well as big tech.

The data was shared via tracking pixels, custom-built code that Meta, TikTok, and Google allow developers to embed in their apps and websites. Ballston Spa softball team hosts Grand Slam tournament to support mental health – The Daily Gazette

The Ballston Spa softball team hopes that this weekend’s installment of its annual Grand Slam Tournament will bring awareness to another worthy cause.

The Grand Slam event has been dedicated to the fight against ALS since 2016. This year, the event will be dedicated to suicide awareness and menthal health support.

“One of our players, her father suffered from ALS and we wanted to support her and that cause,” Ballston Spa softball coach Amanda Fifield said. “Then, a family within our program was impacted by the the loss of someone due to suicide. We want to make a donation in their honor, and promote the awareness that there’s help out there for you.”
