Google and Microsoft are using their deep pockets to take on AWS

Google and Microsoft have turned to a new strategy which has seen both companies make big investments in other businesses in an effort to bolster their cloud market share and better compete with AWS.

After replacing Diane Greene as the CEO of Google Cloud back in 2019, Thomas Kurian hasn’t been afraid to tap the company’s $142bn cash reserves to attract more customers to the service. In fact, Google has made sizeable investments in the business security system provider ADT ($450m), the Spanish-language media company Univision, the healthtech startup Tempus Labs and the futures-exchange firm CME Group ($1bn).

However, when it goes down, Microsoft customers are unable to access the Azure Portal to manage their cloud services.

Watch out Microsoft, here’s a Surface Studio rival from China’s biggest tech firm

In October 2021, Alibaba unveiled a new all-in-one (AIO) PC as part of its family of cloud-based computer products. The Wuying AIO PC follows the original Wuying, a tiny thin client that could sit comfortably in the palm of your hand and act as a gateway to Alibaba’s formidable cloud computing infrastructure.

A spokesperson for Alibaba has now provided us with more details on the newly-launched AIO, which doubles as a business PC. Two versions will be offered; one with a 23.8-inch full HD display and a Pro version with a larger 27-inch touchscreen display that offers a 2,560 x 1,440 resolution.
