MTV Movie & TV Awards will be very different from what fans have been used to due to a strike by the Writers Guild of America (WGA). Unlike before, when nominees and other artists graced the show with their presence, there won’t be any live audience this year. The award ceremony initiated in 1992 was simply MTV Movie Awards. But more than two decades later, it began to honor works on TV. Like a typical award ceremony, viewers often anticipated the annual show, including the live audience and the show’s host. However, this time, some slight changes have been influenced by the ongoing Writers Guild of America strike.

The guild currently consists of over 6,000 members who “write content for motion pictures, television, news, and online media.” The labor union “negotiates and administers contracts that protect the creative and economic rights of its members; conducts programs, seminars and events on issues of interest to writers; and presents writers’ views to various bodies of government.”
