Labour MP Malcolm Paul Agius Galea has criticised the choice of the United Arab Emirates, one of the world’s largest oil producers, as host of this year’s COP28 climate change summit.

“The UAE economy relies on oil, a fossil fuel, which creates toxic gases that escalate climate change,” Agius Galea said in Parliament this week.

He said it was very ironic that Sultan al-Jaber, chief executive of the UAE’s state-oil firm Adnoc, was chosen as president of COP28.

“His role clashes significantly with his role at COP28; it was quite annoying and there was a lot of resistance to it,” he said.

Facebook posts have been shared by thousands of people warning that a Nivea sunscreen product for children has changed its formula and does not include the ingredient ‘almond oil’ labelled on its package. 

Almond oil has always been listed on the label but originally appeared under its scientific name only. The label now mentions both its scientific name in the ingredients list as well as a clearer warning about “Almond Oil”. 

The posts say: “Hi everyone, just to let you know if any parents have brought this Nivea suncream they have changed the formula and it contains almond oil which has not been labelled on the package. In case any children have reaction or allergic to almonds. Thank you to parent for informing us about this. [sic]”

The Baku Higher Oil School of SOCAR (BHOS) has hosted the opening ceremony of the 4th International Student Research and Science Conferences dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the National Leader Heydar Aliyev.

The event began with the performance of the National Anthem of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the screening of the film “Heydar Aliyev’s ingenious personality”.
