Last year, a nonprofit internet archival organization, The Internet Archive (IA), lost the first circuit court (Hachette v. Internet Archive) against four major publishers that sued IA for its decision to act as a digital library during the pandemic, lending more than one copy of a book at a single time.

Whether it was an ethical decision and who is right in this battle—publishers, using the existing copyright law provisions to their advantage, or the IA, stating that today’s copyright law is outdated and does not meet the requirements of digital societies—remains to be answered. The IA appealed its loss in the Second Circuit Court, a decision supported by many authors themselves.

The Plan Year 2025 Open Enrollment period for West Virginia University benefits-eligible faculty and staff is underway and will run through Wednesday, May 15. Open Enrollment is the only time of the year to add, drop or make changes to your benefits without a qualifying life event.

The University of Malta finally has its own chess club and it’s going to be hosting its first major event next week.

A ‘chess open’ will take place at the University Quadrangle on Wednesday 17th April, where students will get to play against each other and even test out their skills against professional chess players.

Prizes are on offer for those who manage to beat them.

The University Chess Club is run by a group of student chess aficionados and its president is Matthias Gatt, who was recently runner-up of the national blitz championship.

Its executive also includes Andre Farrugia, Dylan Phillips, Jamie Farrugia, Andrei Dobbin, Martina Portelli, Jacob Zammit, and Adam Buckle.

Rackspace Announces Open Source Datacenter Strategy

Rackspace to further the open cloud vision by extending it into its data center infrastructure solutions

Without an efficient way to squeeze additional computing power from existing infrastructure, organizations are often forced to purchase additional hardware or delay projects.
