200 million people use ChatGPT every week – up from 100 million last fall, says OpenAI

OpenAI launched ChatGPT in November 2022, and while you might think that after being on the market for nearly two years, its initial popularity would settle down, the number of users keeps increasing exponentially.

On Thursday, OpenAI shared that ChatGPT has 200 million weekly active users. Compared to the 100 million weekly ChatGPT active users OpenAI reported having in November 2023, the number of active weekly users doubled in about a year.

OpenAI just bought a video conferencing app — and it could mean big things for the future of collaboration

ChatGPT maker OpenAI has announced the acquisition of Multi, a startup formerly known as Remotion, which creates multiplayer collaboration, screen-sharing and video conferencing software.

The deal follows OpenAI’s recent purchase of databased technology firm Rockset, highlighting its expansion beyond generative AI chatbots into the enterprise online collaboration market.

How OpenAI Trimmed $50 Billion off Alphabet’s Market Cap on Monday

OpenAI: Training AI Tools Without Using Copyrighted Material Is Impossible

OpenAI has openly shared that it can’t train advanced AI models like ChatGPT without using copyrighted material.

OpenAI has been upfront about its position on the use of copyrighted material in AI training. In a document submitted to the UK’s House of Lords Communications and Digital Select Committee, OpenAI shared that training large language models such as GPT-4, the tech behind ChatGPT, would be impossible without access to copyrighted work.

“Because copyright today covers virtually every sort of human expression — including blog posts, photographs, forum posts, scraps of software code, and government documents — it would be impossible to train today’s leading AI models without using copyrighted materials,” OpenAI said in its submission.
