SiteGround Hosting Outage Over – Site Recoveries Continue

SiteGround web hosting suffered a significant four day outage beginning Monday November 8, 2021. It wasn’t until November 12th that they tweeted that they had resolved the problem. Many customers lost rankings in Google and a significant amount of website traffic as the holiday shopping season fast approaches.

Many SiteGround publishers remain upset, largely because of the perceived slow pace of recovery from lost Google Search traffic.

A lack of transparency about what caused the problem may have also inspired a sense of frustration and helplessness. It wasn’t until Monday November 15th that SiteGround publicly acknowledged the cause of the widespread hosting outage.

Web Hosting Canada says unauthorized activity by third-party service provider caused major outage, data loss – DatacenterDynamics

Montreal-based service provider Web Hosting Canada suffered a lengthy outage on Saturday 28 August.

The company blamed the downtime on unauthorized activity by an undisclosed third-party service provider. Production servers and backup servers were affected, which may have caused permanent data loss for some. Services are still recovering.

In a blog post, founder and chief executive officer Emil Falcon said that the issue was caused by unauthorized activity by a third-party service provider.

“Based on our investigation to date, the morning of August 28 at approximately 6 a.m., an individual with a third-party service provider used their privileged account access to connect to one of our datacenter’s management portals and without authorization, initiated server reimaging on some of our backup servers, then on some of our production servers,” he blogged.
