Johnson hosting Gershkovich’s parents at State of the Union address

The parents of detained Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Gershkovich will accompany House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) as his guests for Thursday’s State of the Union address.

Johnson, in a statement shared with The Hill, said he is “honored” to host Ella Milman and Mikhail Gershkovich, the parents of Evan Gershkovich, who has spent more than 250 days behind bars in Russia over espionage charges. 

“By hosting Evan’s parents, Congress will shine a spotlight on the unjust detention of their son. The United States must always stand for freedom of the press around the world, especially in places like Russia, where it is under assault,” Johnson said Tuesday. “The Administration must bring Evan home.”

James McGrath stabbing: Party-hosting parents get probation

The Connecticut parents who hosted a drunken high school house party that preceded the fatal stabbing of a 17-year-old were sentenced Wednesday to probation for allowing underage drinking.

Paul Leifer, 59, and Susanna Leifer, 52, will have their cases dismissed if they meet certain conditions, the Connecticut Post reported. Those conditions include not getting arrested again in the next two years, completing 50 hours of community service each, making $250 charitable donations and not hosting any parties that may include underage drinking.

A party at the Leifers’ house on May 14, 2022 ended in a fight, and some of the combatants met later that night down the road and brawled again. During the second confrontation, 17-year-old James McGrath was stabbed to death.

KOHAT, DEC 25 (DNA) — 28th annual Parents’ Day was celebrated  at Garrison Cadet College Kohat. Governor Haji Ghulam Ali of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Major General Zulfikar Bhatti, GOC of the Nineth Division of Kohat, Principal Brigadier Nasir Awan, representatives of the Kohat Chamber of Commerce, officers from the military and civil service, and a sizable number of parents were also present on this esteemed occasion.

The governor was given a guard of honor. In his speech, the governor praised the principal and faculty for their excellent teaching, discipline, and preparation of young people from all castes for the advancement of the nation.
