Substack, the popular newsletter publishing platform toting millions of subscribers, is at the center of a user quagmire in 2024: Should we stay or should we go?

In a recent article by The Atlantic, the platform was called a “ticking time bomb” of content moderation issues, which have prompted several prominent blogs and writers to publish scathing indictments of the site before ceremoniously leaving the platform.

The company has faced other battles in the last year as well, including a brief feud with Elon Musk-owned X/Twitter. So why are users ushering in the new year by exiting the site now?

Migrants, host family to share first Thanksgiving together: ‘Thanks to God we’ve always found good people on our trip here’

Michel Sandoval has never celebrated Thanksgiving before, but Thursday evening she knows exactly what she’ll be giving thanks for — family, good health and all the people who helped her and her partner, Luis Alfonso, in their long journey from Venezuela.

“I’m grateful God has always been with us, hasn’t left us, and thanks to God we’ve always found good people on our trip here,” said Sandoval, 21.

County, town hosting forums focused on supporting unhoused people

Sessions for service providers, public taking place Oct. 19 at North Simcoe Sports and Recreation Centre

The County of Simcoe and the Town of Midland are hosting forums for service providers and residents with a focus on supporting people who are unhoused.

The forums will take place Oct. 19 at the North Simcoe Sports and Recreation Centre, 527 Len Self Blvd., Midland. The goal is “to foster and share ideas, tools, and resources with the purpose of uniting residents in building up a brighter future for unhoused individuals,” according to a news release.

The first forum is for local service providers. It will run from 1 to 4 p.m. Admission is free, but registration is required. Registration can be completed here.

Long Beach to host its first job fair dedicated to people with disabilities – Press Telegram

National Disability Employee Awareness Month is in October — and Long Beach plans to honor that by hosting its first job fair for people with disabilities.

The city has partnered with the Disabled Resources Center, Mental Health America of Los Angeles, the California Department of Rehabilitation and Pacific Gateway Network to put on the job fair, which will take place from 2 to 5 p.m. Oct. 3 at the Civic Center Plaza and City Hall Lobby.

Long Beach is home to nearly 50,000 residents with disabilities, according to the city’s press release. A third of those people are unemployed and continue to face barriers of preconceived notions obstructing many employment opportunities, the city said. The  job fair will be an opportunity for people with disabilities to meet with local employers…
